Palisades is on track to become the U.S.’ first shut-down nuclear power plant to be recommissioned.

Any repowering of the 800 MW nuclear plant in Michigan was contingent on federal funding. The U.S. Department of Energy now plans to loan the money, putting Palisades on track to become the first shut-down nuclear power plant in the U.S. to be recommissioned.

Holtec International – which aims to restart the shuttered Palisades nuclear plant in Michigan – is interested in building a small modular reactor at the site.

The fate of the shuttered plant still hinges on financial support from the federal government.

State money could be used as bridge funding to pay for restart efforts at the 800 MW Palisades station.
