MidAmerican Energy ups Wind Power Profile with EDF Renewables deal

The acquisition will contribute to MidAmerican Energy’s 2,000-MW Wind XI goals. The utility hopes to generate renewable energy equal to 90 percent of retail customer use by the end of 2020.

Iowa-based MidAmerican Energy is buying the development assets connected to the proposed 91-MW Ivester Wind project from EDF Renewables North America.

The acquisition will contribute to MidAmerican Energy’s 2,000-MW Wind XI goals. The utility hopes to generate renewable energy equal to 90 percent of retail customer use by the end of 2020, according to the report.

EDF Renewables North America is a subsidiary of the renewable energy affiliate with French energy firm EDF Group. It has developed numerous wind projects with MidAmerican, including the 7,000 acres in Grundy County, Iowa, dedicated to the Ivester project.

“We are pleased to once again work with MidAmerican Energy to assist them in meeting their renewable energy goals,” Kate O’Hair, vice president of development for EDF Renewables’ north region, said in a statement. “This opportunity expands on our long-term business relationship, having partnered on 771 MW of wind facilities in Iowa.”

MidAmerican Energy earlier this month announced it planned to begin construction on the Ivester project within days and complete the project by the end of the year. The $3.6 billion Wind XI project was announced in 2016.
